Sune Borregaard

Sune Borregaard received his Bachelor of Musicology from the University of Copenhagen in 2004 and his master’s in music from Northern Illinois University in 2006, where he studied with Liam Teague, Robert Chappell and Cliff Alexis.

Borregaard began playing pan in 1989 at age eleven. From 1992 to 1996 he toured Europe with the Danish steelband Steel Going Strong. In 1996 he began composing and arranging for his own latin-jazz group Astrud.

During the 1999 and 2000 London Panoramas, Borregaard played with the Glissando Steel Orchestra. During the 2000 World Steelband Festival in Trinidad and Tobago, he played with the Swiss steelband Panch. For the 2002 European Steelband Festival Borregaard performed with the Danish steelband the Steely Danes. In 2006 he performed with the Skiffle Bunch Steelband for Trinidad and Tobago’s Panorama. Since 2002, he has been performing with the 6 piece steelband combo Sonic Steel and SUMI, an electro-acoustic duo based on improvisation and the combination of steelpans and machines.
