Jason Schreiber

Jason Schreiber is a music educator, performer, and composer/arranger currently residing in Norfolk, VA. He has earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Northern Illinois University studying under G. Allan O’Connor, Liam Teague, and Cliff Alexis. During his undergraduate and graduate studies he balanced his curriculum between performing, arranging, studying music theory, building pans, directing, and studying Planetary Geology. Internationally, Schreiber has performed for the 2000 World Steelband Music Festival in Trinidad, for the 2002 Seoul Drum Festival in South Korea, and for the 2006 Panorama in Trinidad with Phase II and BP Renegades.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, Schreiber has since led a nomadic, gypsy lifestyle. He has gained experience teaching the steel band art form and as well as public school science at the middle school, high school, college, and community level throughout his residencies in Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, Colorado, and Virginia.

Besides the Steel Band art form, Schreiber can also be heard playing accordion, tenor banjo (early jazz/Dixieland style), guitar, trumpet, mandolin, and singing. He currently serves as the director for the Urban Arts Center, a nonprofit community arts organization in Portsmouth, VA.
