MalletMan mallets are thoughtfully designed from a variety of materials, and made to specification according to weight, length, and diameter for the shaft and mallet tip. For steel band directors, you may consider mixing mallet types to produce the best sound for your ensemble depending on make and vintage of your instruments as well as the technique of your players.
The lengths of mallets we offer are the most commonly requested lengths from MalletMan. If you prefer a different length or any other specific customization, please visit MalletMan.biz. MalletMan is always happy to create custom mallets to suit your performance needs. |
ShaftsAluminum: Aluminum mallets offer a durable, lightweight solution that provides an even tone across the range of the drum. Aluminum mallets may be painted in a variety of colors to suit a band's needs. Wood: These classic wooden mallets are made from select heartwood, which yields a consistent weight and density and is free from knots and blemishes. Wooden mallets are heavier and provide a punchier attack. The density of a wood shaft provides for a more even weight distribution across the length of the stick. Carbon Fiber: These cutting edge mallets are made from composite materials to be lighter than aluminum, but more durable than bamboo. Guitar, Cello, Tenor Bass and Bass mallets available by request. Rattan: These lightweight wooden sticks are lighter and less expensive than classic wood. Cello/Guitar, Tenor Bass and Bass mallets are not available in Rattan. Bamboo: These natural mallets made from high quality, hand selected bamboo are the lightest sticks available. |
TipsSoft: Softer mallet tips generally yield a warm, round sound emphasizing the fundamental of the note with very little attack sound. Soft tips are ideal for a dark, blended sound and recommended for a general purpose tip. Rigid: Harder tips place more emphasis on the upper partials of the note and give a punchier, more percussive sound. Rigid tips are recommended for helping a drum "cut through" the ensemble with a brighter, more pronounced sound.
